Support the People of Apolobamba

Apolobamba is an area of Bolivia, one of the poorest and least developed countries in all of South America. People here lack even the most basic of things. Although there is now electricity in most of the villages, a large percentage of the population can't afford to pay for it and so continue to do without. Unemployment is high and the cost of basic foods has risen substantially (as in much of the world today).

But the people of Apolobamba live in an area of outstanding natural beauty and are very rich culturally. They have the basic ingredients to enable them to help themselves.

Community based eco-tourism projects provide whole villages with the opportunity to work and improve their livelihoods, from a better diet to enabling them over time to buy solar panels for generating energy or other tools to improve their individual standard of living.

A percentage of all the income generated is also pooled in a fund to benefit the community as a whole, be it through buying books and supplies for the local school, building health centres, improving roads or water supplies.

The other objective of these projects is to help protect and conserve the natural resources and culture within the protected area.

There are plenty of other communities in Apolobamba that would love to welcome eco-tourism to their area of the park, and we would like to help them to do so. But it all takes money.

If you would like to help the people of Apolobamba by making a donation, you could do so by clicking on the donation button below (powered by PayPal).
